We're all about goal setting and goal crushing! The New Year is always a great way to analyze your progression and make plans for the coming months. Whether you're looking to loose the COVID-19 or just establish healthier habits, Erika and JJ Peterson of Clean Simple Eats know how to help you get there! Here's what Erika has to say about making plans that will help you crush your health goals in 2021.


This year we are trying to do more of what brings out our best selves. For us, that means prioritizing our physical, mental, and emotional health. We’re all about the journey, but the one thing we know for sure is that to really succeed, you actually have to have a plan in place. Our plan revolves around these five pillars of health: nutrition, exercise, sleep, mindset, and consistency. Starting a healthy routine or creating sustainable habits always begins with these pillars, but there’s a little more to it. 

Here are five simple things you can do to create sustainable healthy habits this year: 

  1. Focus on healthy eating habits. Look at your diet as a whole. Analyze what areas could use some improvement. Maybe it’s eating out less, cooking at home more, getting in more protein or veggies, drinking more water, having healthy options always available at home. Start with ONE thing, just one! Once you have conquered that, move onto another. Small healthy habits repeated daily will lead to BIG results.
  2. Move your body. Change the way you look at exercise. Exercise should be a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate. The key is to find a workout or exercise you enjoy—and do more of THAT.
  3. Make sleep a priority. That next Netflix episode can wait! Make sure you get enough quality zzz’s; that’s 7-9 hours a night.
  4. Think about what you want. A positive mindset helps you visualize where you see yourself and focus on positive thoughts. Writing down or manifesting your goals out loud each day will help you stay positive, motivated and focused. 
  5. Be consistent. Consistency over time never fails.
